A great game at Wandsworth and one of a surprisingly good quality deserved a crowd to share the enjoyment. Not the most welcoming of venues and needing a week’s notice of visiting, I nevertheless throw out the idea of teams taking some off-court noise with them next season.

Visiting Isis two days earlier, Waltham Forest had fought back from a two set deficit to secure the third and compete well for the fourth before losing. It was clearly their aim to make sure their visitors from a little nearer the top of the division worked hard for any success.

“Not our best performance in an incredibly hot John Orwell Sports centre, ”Emanuel Balsamo summed up after the match. He felt that once again the team had ridden its luck in away games, saving yet another set point in the first set. As in away games at Isis and Fireball, the team went on to take the set and this proved to be the pivotal point of the game as they then could capitalise from the confidence gained.
