Four "walk-overs" spoil day of achievement
London enjoyed a great opening to the English national cup competition with only one team losing to opposition from outside the region and that a club from the second tier of the local league testing the water against a National League side and taking it to 16:14 in a fifth set.

While most London League sides continued to relax with their season not starting until the end of September, National League and a few ambitious sides from the regional competition started to ramp up their training early as they have to meet an important challenge next weekend when the first rounds of the national knock-out competition take place.

On 16th July 2008 half a dozen volleyball players got together for a social session. So well did it go that they decided to form their own club. What could they call it? Putney Rebels was rejected, then Flaming Balls before they hit on Flaming Six.

And the answer is clear; it's as good, if not better than our clubs'" The University of Essex plays in the top flight so will be expected to challenge Team Northumbria who won the English Super8 title last season.
