Weekend's results (men's and women's National Volleyball League)
Surprise defeat for Dartford
There was a numerically quiet opening to the season in the National Volleyball League with no Saturday games and only five London sides involved in six fixtures on Sunday. Even so, there were several encouraging starts but one unexpected defeat.

Mid-summer shock
Hard on the heels of IBB Polonia's news that they had secured the services of top coach Simon Loftus arrived the news on 11th July of the demise of their main contender in the top flight with its women's side which is currently the knock-out Cup holder both having topped the Super8 divisions last season.

Club announces new appointment
Open in new windowLondon's top men's side last season, IBB Polonia announced yesterday (11th July) the appointment of Simon Loftus as head coach for the upcoming season. Simon is a Scottish volleyball coach with international experience that includes Olympic Games and it’s a return to English league volleyball, and time to lead the ambitious London based club.

Retirement at London Super8 club
Coach Piotr Graban leaves IBB Polonia
Open in new windowPolish Volleyball coach Piotr Graban who has coached in London for the past two years is moving on. Born in 1986, he is one of the most decorated young coaches in Poland after graduating from AWFiS Gdansk. In his two years with IBB Polonia he has led the club to two victories and two second places and to ninth place in the CEV Challenge Cup in 2017 making that year the most successful in IBB Polonia’s history.
He is moving to work with Andrea Anastasi in Trefl Gdansk.
