As the large crowds filtered in, posters were in evidence; between sellers of raffle tickets, flyers were given out; when we went down for refreshments between games we could discuss the news: All Nations is adding an outdoor beach volleyball tournament to its repertoire. All agreed it’s an event not to be missed.

The competition will follow the popular and hugely successful All Nations format and will be run as a 4-a-side beach volleyball tournament. It will be played over two days on 2nd and 3rd June at the new, purpose built beach volleyball courts at the SCORE sports centre, opposite Leyton Forest’s stadium in East London and, like all good beach tournaments, will take place in a fun environment with music, a barbecue and other entertainment.

Players from all over the UK are expected to register to play for their country. They don’t need to find a team and it does not matter if they have played beach volleyball before. They have the option of forming a team made up entirely of players from their own country or they can enter on their own and be put in a team of four with fellow countrymen or countrywomen – or even with players from other countries if necessary. Inevitably, this means that team numbers may have to be limited so the organisers are keen to receive entries as early as possible. Leaving them to the closing date of 28th May may bring disappointment.

Meanwhile, on court and in front of enthusiastic and often deafening support, the men’s division one was won by the U.K. team and the women’s by a combined Czech-Slovak side while the men’s Czech-Slovak team won division two with USA winning the women’s second division. At the end of clearing up an exhausted tournament director, Gary Beckford said, “A big thanks you to all the participants, volunteers and spectators at this year’s event! See you all next year!” Our thanks to him.
