Metropolitan Police lost to Malory Eagles 2 (Men’s D2 Red - London Volleyball League)

Malory Eagles Seconds ease into third place
After the long journey to Tottenham, Malory Eagles steadily found their form and, maintaining the steady progress they have been making all season, eventually won the match without too much difficulty. However, it hadn’t begun like that.

The first set could have gone either way although for much of the early part the score mounted in short bursts of serving success giving one side, then the other, a lead of two or three points. Even after an Eagles’ time out when 18:21 down the pattern continued until they had got back on terms at 22-all. They went a point ahead and traded point for point in a thrilling finish until it was 24-all. Surprisingly, the visitors showed the greater composure and served out for the set.

The loss seemed to ruffle the police and they were quickly 0:6 down in the second set and struggled until Paul Cheadle used a time out at 9:18 to adjust his team tactics. They managed a couple of short runs of point scoring but on each side of them Eagles grabbed a point or two and by the time the set was over had only seen a single point reduction in that lead. Much of the third was rather closer although Malory established that they were the superior side as they eased further ahead to 12:19. The realisation hit both teams that a seven point lead was not going to be overturned and the Police failed to overcome a confident conclusion to the set by the south London side.
