UBS beat Chadwell Heath Lynx (Men’s D2 Blue - London Volleyball League)
25:8 25:12 25:20
Unbeaten record maintained
After half a dozen rallies shared, UBS burst into life in a determined drive to keep their 100% record intact and, although the first set slipped quickly away, Gary Beckford did well to encourage his young players and they did a super job in recovering their composure and, in the third set, giving their hosts no little concern.
UBS began the second set in the same frame of mind as they had contested the first and Lynx 3 had no answer as nine points turned over on the scoreboard before they even had their first serve. However, that rally won, they enjoyed a share of the success in holding the score to 17:7 but they then rather faded once more as Robertos Galvydis, Valdas Jurasauskas and Gundars Routenbergs enjoyed themselves at the net.
Lynx served for the third: two points in succession won. With Damian Andrzejewski setting a great example they raced to a 2:8 lead. UBS gave themselves a talking to and began to play again. They lost service at 5:8, recovered a couple of points later and sensed Gary Beckford was worried again when he asked for a time out at 10-all. UBS grabbed a couple of points lead and had to play very hard indeed to maintain it. However, having seen off repeated challenges as the scores mounted to 19:17, they reimposed their dominance and reached match point after Lynx had served at 23:20. They made no mistake at the first time of asking.
They will be delighted to stay on top of the division. Chadwell Heath Lynx will see their reply to quality play as excellent preparation for the rest of their season.
