Response to sport's stoppage
Open in new windowSadness reigned last Monday (17th March) when news arrived from Volleyball England and then the London Volleyball Association that competition was being suspended. The government had restricted movement and the life of sports men and women, including volleyball players of course, changed completely and it was to get worse. What could we do?

Everybody will have their own answer. At Little Giants it was, "The Toilet Roll Challenge". After a few moments of sadness, annoyance and frustration and in reaction to the response of one section of society, a round-robin indicated players wanted a different challenge. So using that title with irony, filmed themselves using isolated ways of keeping fit. Photos and videos were produced, circulated and posted on the club web site with prizes being awarded every couple of days for the best idea, the daftest idea, the funniest idea, . . .

Open in new windowWith teams playing in the National League men and women's division three and in the Regional League men and women's first division, some form of training was essential. With hundreds playing recreational volleyball, it was important to maintain interest.

It's too soon to know if or when competition will restart. Planning is not possible. Spontaneity is providing a solution
