London teams' latest results (National Volleyball League)
London challenges for next Super League place
Richmond and Inter Orcas 2 are setting the pace in the women's first division although Darkstar Derbyshire top the table thanks to the defeat of Orcas a fortnight ago and their playing of more games. On a weekend when many volleyball minds were elsewhere, it was fascinating that these were the only two London clubs playing a league fixture over the weekend.

On Saturday Richmond made a slow start against Hertfordshire and struggled to win the opening set. Facing a side that is three from bottom of the league table despite playing more matches than anyone else it was not good enough so it is encouraging that, with the upper hand achieved, confidence flowed into Richmond veins and they quickly swept the opposition aside in the two sets that followed to more cheers at Kingston Arena.

Next day at Island Sports Trust on the Isle of Dogs there was an even shakier start by Inter Orcas 2 who lost the opening set 24:26 before taking the next three to defeat South Wales and strengthen their position in the competition while leaving their opponents level on points with Hertfordshire.

If these London teams can maintain their challenge there will be a climactic end to the season with Inter Orcas 2 scheduled to entertain Richmond on 29th March and the return match six days later.
