Men's Premier : Home win takes Barracudas top

International beat Richmond, 21:18 22:20 16:21 21:16 Men's Premier Division (London Volleyball League)
Did rotation fault change the result?
Inter kept up the pressure on SQUAD when it starts to catch up its backlog of fixtures and they sit at the top of the table as the new half of the season gets under way.

Play was tight from the outset and until 5:all there was nothing at all between these sides. Then a solid spell of serving by Enrico Spagolla for Barracudas took his side to a 10:5 lead. Richmond regrouped and quickly got themselves back into the match at 11:all but the home side edged in front once again and, after 21 minutes, took the set. They won the second set too but it was even closer and a minute longer, caused in part by investigation that revealed a rotation fault by Richmond. One point deducted, they still managed to stay in front and earn set point at 19:20. However, a determined Inter side remained confident, raised its game and took the three following rallies.

Barracudas opened the third set full of confidence and, playing very well, raced to a 6:2 lead. A well judged time-out then settled Richmond and they hauled their way back onto terms at 11:all before opening a slender lead which they held to 16:17 when they took control and forced a further set. Richmond began that set by failing to convert any of its first six serves into a winning rally by which time they were 14:6 behind. Bizarrely, Inter then followed suit with a series of six fruitless service turns as Richmond recovered to 20:16. Side out rotated Brian Ball to position one. He produced an excellent serve that led to the vital winning rally. The win was International's.
