Rebels beat Inter Crocs 21:18 21:12 16:21 21:23 15:10 Women's Premier Division (London Volleyball League)
Five tremendous sets in Peckham
With both sides having a similar record, this always looked one of the key fixtures of the second part of the season. Rebels put down an immediate marker by winning the first three rallies of the game and though Crocs levelled the score at 8:all and maintained their recovery to 14:all, the home side then went back in front again, helped in no small measure by an excellent spell of serving by Indre Stankeviciute that put them in front 18:14. Tension was in the air as Crocs recovered to 18:all but Rebels' nerves held as they secured side out and Miley Adison served for the set.

The second set was a disappointment by comparison. Looking very confident, Rebels played well and steadily pulled further and further ahead. At 15:5, Crocs looked out of contention. They managed to recover to 15:9 but failed to threaten for the remainder of the set. However, they raised their game immediately the third set began, were rapidly 0:2 in front and steadily increased their lead to 4:10 before Crocs regained their composure but not the extra points they needed to prevent a fourth set. That proved to be the most competitive and most exciting of the evening. With neither side having more than a single point advantage, the scores were tied once again at 16:all. Rebels advanced to 16:18 and then 17:20. Match point. It looked all over but Crocs refused to yield. They regrouped to tie the score at 20:all. Rebels won the following rally. Another match point but the visitors refused to go home. They secured side out, tying the score and rotating Raquel Rabadan to serve, and two well placed serves helped set up winning rallies that resulted in a fifth set.

The opening stages of the deciding set proved to be close but Rebels' front line clicked at 5:4 and with Gerda Berstautaite, Patricia Regaspi and Angelica Siergiej shining, raced to 9:4. Crocs immediately recovered their composure but were not allowed to make inroads into that hard won lead. Rebels were going top but both sides' record now shows two losses. Both will be looking over their shoulder to see how Lionhearts East fare against Onyx next week.
