London youth's volleyball success
First time Giants through in boys and girls
The strength of London's volleyball youth shone through again over the past weekend (1st December) with almost all of its sides going through to the next stage of the national under sixteen championship.

Such is the city's strength in the girls' competition that Graveney & Malory Eagles, Richmond A, the current national champion, and Richmond B had pre-qualified for the next round. This left London Giants, entering the competition for the first time to qualify through a four-team tournament. Not only did they qualify, they won the tournament.

The same two clubs had pre-qualified in the boys' competition but there were four other entrants, divided between two qualifying tournaments, two teams in each. And two London teams duly qualified from each tournament: Willesden and Richmond B from one, Giants and Lynx from the other. They could not have done better.

The under eighteen competition continues next weekend when one pool in the women's competition will contain a team from VK Barnet and teams from Malory Eagles & Ernest Bevin School, Willesden, Richmond and Lynx will play in the men's. Graveney and Malory Eagles women and Richmond men have a bye to the next round.
