Men's Premier Division (London Volleyball League) Wapping Wildcats lost to Lionhearts Alpha,12:25 15:25 19:25
Wildcats' woes continue
Since their defeat by SQUAD in the first league game of the season, Lionhearts Alpha have gone from strength to strength and they continued their advance on Thursday, quickly disposing of Wapping Wildcats playing at their opposition venue in Bethnal Green. In contrast, Wildcats have been coming so close to victory that it seemed their time was due; So far Richmond and Onyx Black had needed five sets to overcome them and they won a two-all game against Inter Barracudas on points won. However, it took them too long to challenge a confident opposition sufficiently to pose a threat.

The teams traded point for point to 3:all but then Stefano Ziller rotated to serve for Alpha and the pressure he exerted inspired great things from the front three of James Barlow, Brian Lemoine and Adrian Machowicz. Within a few minutes the visitors led 3:11 and they then pulled a little further away during the rest of the set.

It was Adrian's service that started another Wildcats slide in the second. Until 7:all there had been nothing between the teams. Wildcats had pulled ahead 8:7 but his spell took them to 8:13 and there was again no looking back as the lead slowly increased to the end of the set.

The third set was a lot closer and Wildcats led for much of its first half: at 4:9 it looked healthy but they were caught at 17:all and after alternate serves to 19:all Nicholas Perry who had joined the action midway through the second set took his turn to serve and calmly took his team to victory.

Now they stand top of the league table although unbeaten SQUAD are right behind them with a game in hand. SQUAD are due to entertain Onyx Black on 1st December and Richmond a week later both in Rotherhithe. They'll be watching those games with interest.
