HAOK Mladost Zagreb beat IBB Polonia London (CEV Champions League) 25:11 25:17 25:14
Croatian champions too strong
Open in new windowPolonia went down in three sets in their first round match in the CEV Champions League 2020 this evening (22nd October) so will have a monumental task to overcome so large a deficit in London on Wednesday next week.

To prepare for the country's first club foray into this prestigious competition, IBB Polonia, champions of England, had taken on Grupa Azoty ZAKSA, champions of Poland. The result was not a surprise: 25:15; 25:19; 25:13) in favour of the Polish giants but it had been good preparation for the London side that usually plays at Brentford Fountain Sports Centre in Brentford.

In Zagreb HAOK Mladost's serving was strong and accurate and had Polonia under siege throughout and proved especially effective in the first set. That strength also enabled them to create better attacking opportunities and, although Polonia matched them in the block and played good, promising volleyball in the second set, the task proved too difficult.

The return leg of the round will be played in the Copper Box Arena (in the Olympic Park) London, on 30th October 2019 and will determine which team progresses to the next phase of this prestigious tournament. It will, of course, be streamed live on the European Volleyball Federation web site (www.cev.lu) but the club and the sport would love a huge attendance at the Copper Box in the Olympic Park to experience the game, its power, its intricacies, its excitement.
