Onyx lost to Lionhearts East, 15:21 21:12 22:20 18:21 8:15, Women's Premier Division (London Volleyball League)
Great opener to London season
"I went to watch and it was a thriller," the divisional administrator Andonio Codrington enthused after the match. First one side took the lead. Then after the score reached one set all, the other side went in front. Then it was two all before Lionhearts eventually claimed victory against the battling Onyx side.

Lionhearts began in impressive style and sped to lead 15:7, looking the much stronger team but Onyx settled well and with some excellent play closed to 16:13. The tone for the afternoon had been set although East were able to regroup and take the set by six points. However, Onyx were now full of confidence and played magnificent to romp through the second. For a short while there was no sign of what was to come and they led only 8:6 at an early stage but they then enjoyed a run of four winning rallies before steaming from 15:10 to 11:19 behind some great serving by Jana Parmova, finishing off the set at 21:12.

Then followed the set of the match: perhaps the set of the season. Lionhearts recovered their poise and slowly opened up to lead 8:15 mid way through the set. Onyx settled and gradually closed the gap but were still four points adrift at set point. Nerves jangling, they kept closing and closing. Four set points saved, it became 20 all. Onyx nerves held: 22:20. Phew! Now the sides had the measure of one another and the fourth was close and tense. Onyx enjoyed an tiny early lead but the scores were tied at 12:all and again at 18:all. Lionhearts' Mashal Sultan rotated to serve as her side went a point ahead and she produced two accurate serves just when they were needed and a tie-break was necessary.

The final set proved to be Lionhearts' almost from the start. Although their hosts competed well they gradually slipped further behind and, after changing ends 5:8 down they went 8:13 down before their visitors finished off the evening with a valuable win.
