Posted by Media Team on 2019/9/8 11:40:00 (46 reads)

Anticipating the new season (men's and women's National League)
London Inter Orcas will start at home
Men's division three will get the new season under way as early as 21st September. With four Greater London teams in the South section and two of them competing in the opening set of triangular fixtures, all eyes will immediately be on Dartford and Richmond 2 as they travel to the depths of Lincolnshire to play UK Armed Forces. Both will want a good start to impress Baks and Giants. Lionhearts will get the Women's second division started on the same day when they entertain Norwich in Shoreditch.

The Super League's first games are scheduled a week later. In the women's competition Inter Orcas will take on Durham at Caius House in Battersea to start their campaign to improve on last season's bronze medals. The same day, Richmond Docklands travel to play in Durham. Sunday they have to face Sunderland, cutting down on their travel to the North East. Richmond Docklands have to play their next two matches away as well, against Essex on 19th October and Tendring on 26th. Their first home game will be on 3rd November against Newcastle, Staffs.

Orcas play at home again a week later when they face Bristol and on 19th October when their opponents will be Wessex. Malory Eagles' season gets under way on 12th October with an away fixture against University of Nottingham and continues with a home match against Tendring a week later and then the London derby on Sunday 27th October against Polonia SideOut in Ealing. Meanwhile, SideOut will have played at home to Sheffield Hallam on 13th October and away in Cambridge on 19th.

Malory Eagles and IBB Polonia both begin their men's Super League efforts on 12th October, Polonia at home to Sheffield Hallam - as in their closing fixture last season - and Malory Eagles away in Newcastle Staffs. Malory continue with a game against Tendring at UEL a week later then, a week after that, will be Polonia's second opponent away in Ealing on 26th. It looks like a challenging early season for all London's top sides.

London's only competitor in Men's Division One is Aces who begin with two home games. the first, on 12th October will be against Cardiff but the second starts a busy week-end as they take on Essex Estonians on Saturday26th before travelling to the north-west next day to challenge Intervolley Manchester. They will have a very similar journey a week later when their opponents will be Stockport.

Women's Division One has an early start with Richmond travelling to South Wales on 29th September and Dartford playing Leeds RGA at home next day. Dartford have further home fixtures on 12th October against South Wales, on 20th against Sunderland and on 27th against Birmingham. Spectators are asked to not that the first three games are to be played at Beths Grammar School in Bexley before the side returns to its regular club venue in Dartford Technology College. Inter Orcas 2 open with a home game against Oxford on 20th October, replacing an away fixture in Leeds and being played at the Island Sports Trust centre.. Richmond continues its season with another away match also on 20th against Derbyshire.

Like the first division, there is only one London team in Men's Division Two and Richmond will be looking to join Aces or even replace them if Aces succeed in gaining promotion to Super League. They begin with two away September games, against Weymouth on 21st and Bristol on 29th before a home encounter against Team Bristol on 12th October followed by two more away games, their first next day in Guildford then on the following Saturday in Milton Keynes.

Similarly, Lionhearts are London's sole Women's Second Division representative and they will follow their first day of the season clash with Norwich by travelling to Sussex Dolphins on 29th September. In October they will have a home game against Essex Trinity on 12th and an away challenge against Wessex a week later.

Hopes are high for an increased representation in the first division in 2020 among the four competitors in Men's Division Two. Two having been in action on the first day of the season, three will be engaged on 13th October. BAKS will join Gloucester Eagles in a triangular fixture at Richmond's Kingston Arena venue on 13th October while, across London the same day at Dartford Technology College the hosts entertain South Hampshire and Surrey Spikers.

With the southern section of Women's Division Two split into divisions of seven and eight and just seven teams in the South-East sector, matches don't get under way until 20th October when Giants take on Maidstone at Caius House. They then travel on 3rd November to face London's other representative, Richmond 2, in Kingston in a triangular series of matches with Urbond.

London is ready for action.
