Funding Secured (men's and women's National and Regional and County competitions)
Success and growth recognised
Richmond Volleyball's profile has increased at quite a rate lately with several senior men’s and women’s teams competing in the national, regional, county and local leagues and also delivering the South London Volleyball League, a fast-growing county level competition with mixed, men’s, women’s and junior divisions. All that and success for several individual players too; players who could soon become stars.

Now the club is celebrating after being awarded £7,800 of National Lottery funding from Sport England to expand the club’s boys’ indoor development programme. The grant will allow Richmond to deliver two additional beginner sessions per week to aid the retention and increase membership among younger boys. Luis Bello, Head Coach of Richmond Volleyball Men/Boys Division is thrilled to have been awarded the funding, saying “We are delighted to have secured this investment which means we can better tailor our junior boys programme to their skill levels and provide additional training sessions for the younger athletes. Thank you to everyone who plays the National Lottery, the funding contribution is important to help grow and promote the active way of life through volleyball”.

The thriving Richmond junior section has already been very successful in developing young talents in school and satellite junior clubs in Richmond, Kingston, Hounslow, Elmbridge and Spelthorne. Every year Richmond junior teams compete in the National Championships in all age categories. Vera Kenyon, Chair of Richmond Volleyball commented, “We are excited to have received this funding which will have a big positive impact on sustainability of our junior development. This Grant will ensure that a younger generation of beginner players from the start of their pathway have access to suitable training, quality coaching and competition opportunities”.

In recognition of the club’s contribution to the development of volleyball, in the summer of 2019 Richmond Volleyball were awarded the prestigious Volleyball England Club of the Year award for the second time in the club’s 27-year history. The club are recruiting new junior club members. If you’d like to join this friendly and award winning club please contact [boys@richmondvolleyball.co.uk].

The Lottery funding recognises that Richmond Volleyball is an award-winning club that provides indoor and beach volleyball for players of all levels across boroughs in South West London and Surrey. The club has hundreds of players throughout all age groups and across all ability levels representing a multitude of nationalities with a real community spirit. The club aims to compete successfully at the highest levels whilst maintaining ‘grass roots’ volleyball. The club’s mission is to promote volleyball by bringing athletes, coaches and the local community together by integrating sport, competition, training and education. It is famous for its ever-growing junior development programme with Richmond Volleyball under age group teams winning four out of the five England National finals the club competed in the 2018-19 season (Under 15 girls, Under 16 girls, Under 15 boys and Under 18 boys). Richmond Volleyball also makes a significant contribution to the National Talent pathway with 17 players currently involved in the junior programmes, with some of the club’s coaches also volunteering their time. The funding will help it continue to build the sport
