Under 18 European Championships Beach Volleyball
Girls' third three-set loss
The young men are through to the next stage of the championships. The young women went out after losing in three sets in each of their pool matches. It's the end of their tournament. The lads face the challenge of sudden death or progress in tomorrow's first round.

The Richmond duo of Jonathan Drysdale Anderson and Bartosz Soczewka, both members of Richmond Volleyball Club had an early start on Friday morning and by a fraction after 9.30 a.m. had disposed of the Croatian pair of Jovovic and Kuljanoc 21:14 21:15 to give themselves six hours to reflect on their upcoming challenge on the top seeds, Russia's Osipov and Vasilenko, the two wins in the pool having ensured they will be in the draw for the next stage of the championships. They found the title favourites much too strong but achieved a respectable 13:21 11:21 score.

At the end of play Jonathan and Bartek were drawn against Cyprus' Savvides and Michael in the first round for teams second and third in their pool. Cyprus finished third in Pool D so, although they will be tough opponents, it could have been more daunting.

Izzy Tucker (Buckinghamshire) and Katie Keefe from London (Richmond) needed to win their last game in Pool A by 2:0 to ensure themselves a place in the "middle sixteen" and a chance to remain in the girls' competition. It was so a tough prospect because their Hungarian opponents of Vasvari and Vecsey had already beaten Austria in two sets and lost to Norway in three after losing the last two sets, both in a tie-break. Losing the first set was a huge disappointment, therefore, but the English pair continued to play well, again won their second set but finally slipped to defeat, already out of contention.
