Under 18 European Championships Beach Volleyball
Keefe and Tucker lose twice
The Richmond duo of Jonathan Drysdale Anderson and Bartosz Soczewka, both members of Richmond Volleyball Club made a great start to their assault on the European under 18 beach title winning their opening game. The games are being played in Baden in Austria and begin with the 32 national teams playing in eight pools of four in both the boys and the girls today (Thursday 13th June) and tomorrow.

The English team began their campaign with a battling win against Denmark, beating Petersen and Christiensen 21:15 22:20. Their remaining two Pool B games will be played tomorrow: first with a 9.00 a.m. start against Croatia and then, at 3.40 p.m., against the number one seeds Russia. It looks like a tough assignment.

Izzy Tucker (Buckinghamshire) and Katie Keefe from London (Richmond) had a tough draw in Pool A, having to play the first game of the day and of the tournament against the Norwegian pair of Maaseide and Kaelo and went down fighting 11:21 21:19 8:15 before a mid afternoon game against the home country favourites and number one seeds, Janka and Riha, again playing three sets but just coming off second best, 16:21 22:20 17:19. Friday they will play against Hungary to complete their pool games.

After the pools, a knock-our event follows with the first and second rounds being played on Saturday and with the semi-finals and finals being played on Sunday after matches to play for third, fifth and seventh place on Sunday. How far will England's teams go?
