Volleyball England Initiative
Inaugural club conference in July
Open in new windowOver the coming weeks affiliated clubs will be receiving the agenda and plentiful papers as Volleyball England prepares for its annual general meeting that has been fixed for Saturday 27th July, as usual in the afternoon. This year, however, there will be additional meetings in the morning, meetings that promise to provide masses of help to all our clubs. The series is being called, "The Club Conference." Sending several members from our club ought to prove beneficial.

The club conference begins at 9:45 and will continue until 12:45 when there will be a break for lunch and the opportunity to meet volleyball friends from all parts of the country. Led by experts, the event will provide advice and instruction on five subjects, all important to every club: on marketing, venues, club funding, developing junior sections and club websites. With three time slots, participants can choose which three workshops they will attend from the five different ones on offer. Experts and professionals will lead workshops on the following topics:
Marketing our club Discover how to invigorate our club to spread its message so our teams and campaigns are more successful. The workshop will be led by Volleyball England board member and owner of a PR agency, Simon Griffiths and Kara Griffiths, head of communications at a large higher education institution. The pair also understand volleyball too. They help run Tamworth Spartans Volleyball Club which won the Volleyball England Club of the Year 2016, following a rebranding of their club..
Venues Having the right place to call home is a foundation of a successful volleyball club. A trio of experts will take us through being a new club: finding a venue, how to influence sports halls to improve volleyball facilities and how a new facility can help our club grow.
Funding Every club should benefit from a cash boost. Volleyball England’s core market coordinator Rob Payne and the HUB’s lead funding support officer Vicki Carr will take us through where to look for funding, how to write a brilliant bid and how members can access funding support from the HUB office. They’ll also look at how to attract sponsorship and raise funds.
Developing junior sections Volleyball England's Children and Young People lead Nick Shaffery will lead a workshop focusing on the next generation of volleyball players and how to develop a junior section at our club. Clubs that already have a junior section will benefit from how to raise participation and inspire more juniors to join.
The club website A club website is an important shop window and a key tool for getting people to engage with us. Professional web designer Joke de Winter will show us how we can use the free and low-cost platforms, such as GoDaddy and Wix, to create a good-looking and easy-to-use website.

Volleyball England members, members of affiliated clubs as well as registered coaches and referees will receive a discounted rate of £35 per person for the Club Conference this year.

The Child Protection in Sport Unit will also deliver a course called, "Time to Listen," during the morning which will provide essential training for club welfare officers. It is a three-hour workshop so participants will have to choose to take part in this workshop and not one of the club development lectures.
