Volleyball England Calendar
New season's August Cup round
Volleyball England last week (5th June) published the national competition calendar for 2019/20 and it follows closely the one used during the season recently ended. The new season will again begin with a preliminary round of the women's and men's knock out Cup and, with the 1st September falling on a Sunday, means there could be matches as early as 31st August.

Early rounds of the Cup and Shield (a knock-out competition for first and preliminary round losers) are regionalised to reduce distances travelled but also means that almost half of London clubs will be eliminated after just two games and nearly half of the rest in the next round. Nevertheless, several teams from the capital that don't play National League enjoyed success last season, notably Onyx and Lynx. Will we have more next season? The deadline is 5th July for non-NVL clubs to enter.

In the National League only teams in the top division, the Super League, and division one play teams from anywhere in the country. Division two has a north and south division and division three has even smaller zones. In the past teams joining from London's premier or first division have done well in the lower tiers of the National League. Monday 24th June is the closing date for clubs entering the National League. Men's division 2 teams will begin their fixtures on Saturday 21st September with those in division three and women's division two next day. A week later all the other divisions will be in full swing and the second divisions will be having their second matches.

Then, over 5th and 6th October focus returns to the Cup.

Entry to the London League closes after the LVA annual general meeting on 15th July. Details can be found under "Resources" on this web site.
