Preparation for London International Beach tournament
Players' preparation on track
It proved an encouraging start. After the disappointment of going out in the qualifying round in Kuala Lumpur, Vicky Palmer and Jess Grimson tasted success in their first match on Friday (10th May) in Pool C in Tuan Chau Island, Vietnam. They beat the Swiss team of Kim Huber and Melina Huebscher, 26:24 21:15

Later in the morning they met the very experienced Russian pair of Ekaterina Syrtseva and Alexandra Moiseeva who have played together since 2013 and, as tournament third seeds (and eventual silver medalists*) had expectedly won the other opening match in the pool. The meeting would decide which team was to go directly into the last eight. The Russians won 15:21 13:21, Vicky and Jess would have to play in the eight team "Round of twelve" on Saturday to decide the other four quarter-finalists.

The Brits played Denmark's Maria-Elisabeth Tyndeskov and Una Trans-Hanson and in a long tough match went out 18:21 15:21. It was the end of their competition but offered the opportunity for more practice with talented teams as they look forward to the next stop in Turkey on their way to Leyton.

Many will want to watch them there at the Continental Cup international matches - and the other English teams along with their oppositions. We recommend using public transport to get to the venue at the Feel Good Too sports ground: tube to Leyton
Cross road and turn right to bus stop
Take 58 or 158 bus to Oliver Road bus stop
Walk forward
Cross Oliver Road
Turn right into Farm Close
Entrance to sports area at end of road.
