England at home in preliminaries
Olympic volleyball is coming back to London. It will be a fleeting visit: two days over the weekend of 25th and 26th May but the city will be one of eight hosts across Europe during the months of May and June this year. This means crowds are expected to flock to watch the matches.

Open in new windowThe draw was made on Monday (4th February) for the composition of the pools for the first stage of the 2020 CEV (European Volleyball Federation) Continental Cup which will double up as a preliminary qualifying tournament for the Tokyo Olympic Games later in the year. Eight pools will be played across Europe in May and June this year with the second in London during the last weekend in May.

The competition is being staged jointly by SideOut and the London Borough of Waltham Forest, the current "Borough of Culture" and games will be played at the SideOut Beach in Leyton now named the Feel good too Sports Centre. The participants will be eight men's pairs and eight women's with two teams from each country giving us a total of eight pairs per gender and the format is country versus country. Only the winners and runners up will secure a place in the second round so competition will be stiff and the team element will introduce an excitingly different facet to our sport.

We'll want to be there. Ticketing details have not yet been decided so stay tuned. As soon as the organisers have reached a decision, the LVA will announce the arrangements.

We look forward to volleyball crowds in East London as enthusiastic as those watching in 2012 and they will see the actual sand used on Horse Guards Parade as it was transported there after the courts were dismantled. Volleyball and London once again demonstrating that Olympic Legacy is possible.
