Lynx beat Inter Premier, 18:21 17:21 21:19 21:16 16:14, Premier Division (Men's London Volleyball League)
Thriller keeps challenge alive
One hour, fifty three minutes for a match between the second placed team and the one lying sixth, the fifth set going to 16:14. What an advertisement for the rest of the season in the Premier Division!

Lynx were the first to get their nose in front in the opening set but Inter quickly got back onto terms and then enjoyed a tiny lead. After taking a time-out at 14:17, Lynx closed the gap to a single point when they took another chance to talk but Dustin King took the opportunity to motivate his squad who took the next two rallies and the set. In their second set triumph Inter did the bulk of their damage in a spell of accurate serving by Marco Gusta during which a front court of Torchio Alessandro, Christian Perri and Denis Zuev took charge. Lynx responded very well indeed and closed to 15:17 but a time out well judged by their coach settled the visitors and they refused to yield as they outscored Lynx to stand two sets to the good.

Lynx had brought on Lance Symister in the middle of the second set and with Mo Slitti who came off the bench at 13:11, settled Lynx who gradually got on top. However, the margins were initially very thin: scores tied at 10:10, Lynx looking secure at 19:16 then insecure at 20:19 but holding their nerve to stay in the match. That seemed to settle the side and they soon took a 6:2 fourth set lead. Yet still Inter continued to challenge and Lynx's advantage was limited to three or four points and then whittled down to 15:all, eliminated at 15:16 and, when a shock result looked a possibility, secured a side out that rotated Guido Petersons to serve and he was able to control his nerves in the tense situation and close out the set.

The deciding set produced a wonderful display of local league volleyball. Playing at an excellent standard and without either side ever leading by more than two points, it was thrilling. Dramatic to the very end. Inter grabbed match point at 14:12. Lynx saved it and Lance Symister had to serve well to earn his team the honours.

Congratulations to the players of both sides. Congratulations too to ref, Kassim Ukware in charge of his second Premier Division game of the weekend. He kept his concentration to the end.
