NVL Super 8 : Two wins for Richmond
Posted by Media Team on 2019/1/14 14:00:00 (87 reads)

Varied fortunes for London teams (men's and women's National League)
Mixed results for Baks and Dartford; Inter disappoint.
In both men's and women's division two, Richmond move up to second place in their league table, the women with a game in hand over the leaders, and so each keeps up its challenge for promotion and title. Elsewhere, London results were mixed.

Both Richmond's opponents were visiting from Bristol and the Division 2 men enjoyed a relatively easy victory against their mid-table opposition. The women, on the other hand, had to dig deep and play very well after losing the opening set against the team that is bottom of the table. By the middle of set three they had things under control but play gave a good indication of the even nature of the competition in the division where no team holds an unbeaten record.

Fourteen sets were played in the "triangular" Men's Division 3 games at Dartford where the visitors were London Baks and Surrey Spikers. The result at the end of a long afternoon was one win and one loss for each of the sides. With two games in hand, this leaves Dartford in the strongest position of the three although they lie fifth to Surrey's third and Baks seventh. The whole division, however, is a very close one behind a rampant and unbeaten Weymouth Beach Volleyball Club.

With a similar record to their opponents and after a knock-out win in the Shield the week before, Inter must have been keen to do well against Hertfordshire in Women's Division 1, especially at home but, in a close, competitive game and despite winning the third set, they went down in four sets and remain in the bottom half of the table.

Dartford are one of four teams challenging Richmond in Women's Division 2 so their visit to Reading was a key challenge for Dartford and, after five intense sets, they triumphed over their host to move to one place below them in the league with a game in hand.
