London Volleyball : Only one London's Shield survivor loses
Posted by Media Team on 2018/12/4 15:00:00 (30 reads)

Third round (Men's and women’s knock-out Shield)
Aces men, Richmond and Dartford women succeed
Richmond women's first team and Essex Blaze played each other in the National League on Saturday (1st December) and were in action again on Sunday in the national women's Shield competition.

Playing at home, Richmond were made to work very hard by Ipswich who play their league volleyball one division lower but went through to the next round after five sets. Essex entertained London's Dartford and with only six players did very well, fighting to win the third set although Dartford's setter, LeAnn Canady, who had a run of nine serves to kick start their second set win deserves a special mention. In the men's Shield, London Aces travelled to UK Armed Forces and moved through to the next round after losing the first set. Ealing's K S Osemka were the only London team to lose but only after acquitting itself very well indeed. Playing away to Cardiff Celts, a national league first division side that is enjoying good results, the London League first division outfit playing away challenged hard throughout, winning the third set and staying close in the fourth. Their performance was an illustration of the relative strength of volleyball in the capital.

Aces are drawn at home against Wombourne in the next round while all four London women's sides will eliminate one another to leave two semi-finalists and one finalist. Dartford will be at home to Inter who had a bye in this week-end's round and Richmond will be away to Onyx who enjoyed a walk-over on Saturday.
