Women's Premier : IMKA win takes them to the top
Posted by Media Team on 2018/10/30 9:00:00 (49 reads)

Polonia IMKA beat Lionhearts Jamme Ja, 21:18 23:21 21:17, Women's Premier Division (London Volleyball League)
Jamme Ja bottom despite valiant effort
At first glance the scoresheet looked odd. There was a certain similarity in every set as, with the exception of Gloria Francalanci, every player had two turns at serving in each of the three sets; Gloria served just once in the first and third sets. In fact the scorer, Vanya Froloshka, had done an excellent job and the paperwork told reams about the game.

IMKA grabbed an immediate two point lead as Marta Rzpowska opened the serving and the lead scarcely varied throughout the set. There was so little between the sides and yet Jamme Ja struggled to get onto terms. They finally made it at 18:all and tension filled the air. Unfortunately for the visitors, they lost the following rally, Jays Lagrimas rotated to serve and her solid serves gave her receivers to let her front line: Marta Rzpowska, Nikola Piechocka and Anna Kurek, control the net.

Jamme Ja went one better than IMKA in the second set, Susi Cuoci serving and ensuring the first three points went their way. After that, they build on their lead, unlike IMKA in the first, but the hosts battled back after a time-out at 6:10 and eventually drew level at 17:all. Jamme Ja struck back, took the lead again and looked like tying things as they reached 17:20. Another IMKA time-out settled the team and they played their best to take the lead at 21:20. Jamme Ja saved one set point but, sadly for them and for their supporters, the situation again brought out the best of the home side.

After winning the opening rally, set three went poorly for Jamme Ja. they were never far behind but Polonia gradually built a small lead. However, a run of points from 10:17 brought them back into contention and they closed to within two points at 18:16 and a thrilling climax looked likely. However, Polonia settled, the sides scored a point apiece and then Jays served for the final point at 20:17 and Polonia players signed in relief before bursting into congratulations to each other.

Lionhearts had done well. They will be back another day.
