Women's Premier : Rebels start their season with a win

London Rebels beat Polonia IMKA, 21:14 21:19 21:18, Women's Premier Division (London Volleyball League)
IMKA go down in three
Although three-nil sounds one sided, this match was far from that. Indeed apart from a few minutes that can't really be explained: Rebels cut down on mistakes, IMKA made a few more: even that's not a wholly satisfactory explanation but in a few minutes of the first set Polonia collapsed from 8 all to 18:12 before regaining their poise and success rate.

That period apart, IMKA held their own in a swift opening set that required one time-out and no substitutions and which lasted just fourteen minutes. IMKA bounced right back at the start of the next set and took a 0:4 lead and extended it to 2:7 when Rebels took the time out that settled the players and restored their winning ways. They drew level at 8:all and from that point neither side led by more than a point until the scores reached 21:20 when the hosts took a two point lead for the only time in the set - but the time when it really counted. Although it was close throughout, IMKA were never in front in the third set, having lost the opening rally. Polonia produced a late flurry of points from 15:20 that produced a time-out at 17:20 and one further point but Rebels allowed them no more.
