Men's and women's national top division
Name to be Super League
Volleyball England announced yesterday that the top men's and top women's division of the National League is being renamed, "The Super League". The dropping of the eight team format and the Super8 title having been revealed two months ago, the new title was decided after a ballot of Association members.

The top divisions will still differ from the remainder of the league, however. Instead of the traditional league structure, both men’s and women’s Super Leagues will be played using a split-league format. Each team will play all the others once and then the divisions split into two halves. The top half will play each other twice for positions one to five and the bottom half will play each other twice to compete for sixth to tenth position in the league. The decision on this format was made following a consultation with the current Super 8s and first division teams. the Association adds.

The all important question is always what happens at the end of the season. The team which finishes bottom will be relegated while the team in ninth will face a playoff against the team which finishes second in NVL division one. Points won in the first half of the season will carry over into each team’s total points tally. However, teams from the bottom half will not be able to overtake teams from the top half.
