Thunderball beat SGSS Southall (Men’s D2A - London Volleyball League)
21:17 21:10 21:17

Both end league season with marvellous match
It was an interesting and close match in set one with only a point or two separating both teams up to 14-14. Thunderball’s Biagini was their best player overall on the night and he then came around to do his long float serves which were a constant threat. With more points gained on the serve Thunderball now had their noses in front which proved decisive as both teams then traded point for point and Thunderball we able to take the set 21:17.

Southall’s coach was playing in an unusual role as outside spiker in set one with some success. In set two though Thunderball countered with a strong double block which proved effective in slowing Southall down as they took a huge early lead and were running away with the set at 12:3. Southall finally found a way around the block and both teams then traded point for point but Thunderball were never going to look back and took set 2 comfortably 21:10.

Set three was very different and a close affair as both teams were now playing better and the competition on court was heating up. Each team were in the set. Thunderball were slightly ahead at the half way mark before both teams had good rallies with again Biagini winning points on his long serve but Southall also having a run of five points with Kulwant Singh on serve. There were some big rallies and the small set of supporters were now fully involved as Southall were winning the defensive battle, and Thunderball’s attack was improving. The final match point spike by Thunderball's Jan Lieskovsky was excellent and a fitting way to win the set and game at 21:17.

Well done to the Thunderball team for raising their game in the final set and countering Southall’s attack so well in set two. A wonderful evening of volleyball was enjoyed by all.
