Volleyball tournaments, London Youth Games
Schools' best at SportsDock
Entries closed on 31st January and team selection is under way in secondary schools all over London. Time has come again for the Schools competition of the London Youth Games and, as always, its tournaments: years 10 and below girls and years 10 and below boys, This year games will be played on 8th March.

Last year, from a field of 25 girls teams and 24 boys, the borough of Wandsworth produced both winners in the form of Graveney School girls and Ernest Bevin boys. Runners up were Lycée Français girls followed by Henrietta Barnett, Barnet and Elmgreen School, Lambeth boys with Chadwell Heath School third. Competition is expected to be just as intense next month. Ernest Bevin's Ashley Trodden explained, "The London School Games volleyball competition is a major event for the U15s volleyball squad at Ernest Bevin College (Wandsworth) and last year the standard was particularly high. This year's preparations having been going really well and I am excited to see how this new crop of players perform at this competition."

Carlos Johnson looks forward to the event saying, "After missing out on a place in the school games finals the previous year, Graveney were really pleased to reclaim the title in 2017. The level of competition has steadily improved over the years and it was no easy task to emerge victorious after many hard fought contests. Putney High will represent Wandsworth at this year's finals and we will be cheering them on in the hope that they can keep the trophy in our borough."

Competition will be held on Thurssday 8th March again at UEL, SportsDock with the teams registering from 9.00 in the morning and play starting at about ten o'clock. With forty-nine entrants last year, this promises to be a great day of volleyball. The medal ceremony is scheduled for 4.30. It will be fascinating to see if Wandsworth's remain the hardest teams to beat.

Over a hundred spectators enjoyed watching the matches last year. It will be worth joining the biggest junior volleyball event in London each year since 1977.
