Men's Div. 2 B : Giants nearly too strong for Osemka 2

Giant Men 2 lost to KS Osemka 2 (Men’s D2B - London Volleyball League)
18:21 19:21 23:25
Historic 28 point final set
Just before Christmas Cisel Ormanci told me she thought her Giants team were super determined to a point they were arranging additional training on Tuesday nights in between a few games taking place every Saturday. It came very close to paying off in a thrilling match at the week-end

They took a little time to settle into the game trailing in the first set right until they pulled level at 16:all. Then another rally put them ahead. However, hopes were dashed as Osemka showed their experience and, Giants having saved one set point, the visitors went a set ahead.

Nevertheless, Giants came out for the second set the more confident side and won the first three rallies. Osemka then settled and a long spell of even and exciting volleyball ensued. The gap gradually increased to 11:5 and for a short while Giants remained on top. At 15:11 Osemka skipper, Witek Muskus who had taken a few rallies on the bench rotated to serve. Accurate and testing he enabled Osemka to take the lead and extend it to 15:18 despite a time-out at 15:13. After Giants halted the slide each side was playing confidently and a great exhibition of competitive folleyball followed in which neither side gained the upper hand and Osemka retained their two point advantage at the end of the set.

There was an unusual opening to the third set with each side taking turns to win a run of points: 0:3, 5:3, 5:8, 8:all. For the rest of the match the battle was almost point for point. Osemka held the one point advantage more often than Giants but it was Giants who had the initiative at 25:24. Then two rallies went the visitors' way.

So Osemka continue their push for glory while Giants will be going into their next match with extra confidence, facing Dynasty on 10th February, Dynasty and Osemka 2 having near-identical records.
