Red Rebels beat Lionhearts Pride (Men’s D2B - London Volleyball League)
21:11 22:20 17:21 21:17

Close contests continue
Another competitive match in a competitive division produced a good home win for Red Rebels against Lionheart's third team at Peckham Rye.

The visitors started poorly and were quickly 4:1, then 7:3 down before holding their own for a brief spell and, eventually fading to 19:8 and a position from which recovery was hopeless. Tsy Toquica motivated his squad for the second set, however and they led, albeit not by much from the end of the first rally until very late in the set when they were caught at 18:all. Rebels then went a point in front. Tsy sought a time-out. It made no immediate effect and Rebels advance to 20:18. Side out at 20:19 and Denzil Faure took a time-out in his turn. Once again, no immediate effect and Lionhearts were level again. Rebels' nerves held. Side-out secured it was Denzil's turn to serve and he saw his side to a two set advantage.

Lionhearts came out for the third in determined mood and, after losing the first rally, advanced to 1:4, then 2:6 and 3:9. They then played really well and, apart from a short spell of hesitant play during which Rebels recovered from 16:9 to 16:14, proved slightly the stronger side and duly took the game to another set. It was to be an excellent one with good play and loads of spirit. It looked very much as though the main difference between the side is their level of confidence. Rebels had the edge at 5:3. The lead remained a couple of points right through to 19:17 without their opponents drawing level and, from that advantage, they always looked in control.

Both sides will feel they can challenge during the second half of the season.
