Men's Div. 2 A : IVA shines then fades against SQUAD
Posted by Douglas Barr-Hamilton on 2017/11/13 17:30:00 (46 reads)

SQUAD beat IVA Persia (Men’s D2A - London Volleyball League)
21:15 21:17 21:11

Three set win puts SQUAD top
The visitors were struggling a little throughout a match in which they were rarely in front and, once two sets down and with a squad of only seven players seemed to lack the sort of variety that would surprise SQUAD's defences.

The first two sets were rather closer than the scores might suggest. In the first there was little between the teams until the scores reached 8:all but at that stage a solid exhibition of serving by captain Artur Zapalowski and some smart attacks notably by Scott Anderson took SQUAD to 15:8. IVA thereafter crept closer to their hosts to 18:15 before losing out in three good rallies. In the second, they won the first four rallies and kept their noses in front until caught at 9:all. They were still close at 17:15 but once again could not match their opponents' consistency in attack.

Able to rotate their squad with their bench compared with IVA who kept to the same six and the same rotation order throughout, SQUAD forced IVA to struggle rather more in the third set. Indeed, from 9:6 the gap between the teams got increasingly larger and the set lasted just 14 minutes.

Delight for the winners who go top of the table after playing four matches; encouragement for IVA for staying in contention for as long as they did.
