NVL Super 8 : TV to show Super8 burst into action
Posted by Douglas Barr-Hamilton on 2017/11/12 12:10:00 (46 reads)

Four matches to see in London (Men's and women’s Super8 - National Volleyball League)
Two Northumbria teams in town
After a rather quiet spell, next Saturday (18th November) will be a day in which all eight women's teams play and six of the men's compete. Only Sheffield and London Lynx won't be in action in the league.

It will be a tough choice of where London's volleyball fans go to watch for all their active teams will be on view in town: Malory Eagles playing away to Richmond Docklands and all the others at home. A favourite place for many will be Brentford Fountain Leisure Centre by Kew Bridge not just because it will be possible to see two games in one visit but, even more enthralling, the visiting sides will be Northumbria, both undefeated so far this season and, of course, top of their table. Buoyed by their win against Orcas yesterday (11th Novmber), Polonia Sideout start the excitement at 12.30 followed onto court by the men's match, scheduled for 2.30, a match that will be broadcast by Polsat TV. The club is hoping for a huge attendance.

The super-enthusiast may just be able to race and see most of another game, if not its start. The warm-up beginning at 5 o'clock in Kingston, Richmond Docklands, like Northumbria undefeated so far this season, take on Malory Eagles still feeling confident after overcoming Lynx in five sets in their last Super8 match. Richmond Docklands, meanwhile, will be determined to keep up their challenge. A less easy journey but an hour longer to make the trip will take you to Orcas' encounter with Oxford Students in Battersea. Orcas had a tough start to their season facing both Northumbria and Durham, the league favourites, in the opening week-end of competition and then a loss by the tiniest of margins to Polonia Sideout. However, taking two sets off Northumbria and Polonia with the win in four sets against Wessex should add some confidence to the determination they will have taking on the students who languish at the bottom of the table without a win. Richmond Docklands and Malory Eagles are both providing good value to spectators. In their last matches Richmond Docklands came back over five sets to beat Lynx 14:25 24:26 25:19 25:21 14:16 while Malory Eagles beat Essex Blaze 21:25 17:25 25:23 25:22 12:15. Their encounter should be an attractive one.

After Saturday's games in London both Northumbria teams will travel to Bournemouth to play Wessex on Sunday. It's going to be a great week-end of Super8 volleyball.
