Men's Div. 2 B : Pride softens to Greenhouse

Lionhearts Pride beat EBC Greenhouse (Men’s D2B - London Volleyball League)
21:12 13:21 21:17 21:14

Second set sensation
Lionhearts began the match so well that there was no early suspicion of the spirited come-back by Greenhouse that enabled them to secure the second set, come close in the third and, apart from a few moments, hold their own in the fourth. They will go away feeling they had stolen the suffix, "Pride."

The evening started evenly: two points to the home side, four to the visitors and then two more to Lionhearts to make it 4:all. Some steady serving by Misha Skurikhin and his front line of Matej Sprla, Jaser Osmond and Sebatien Gerber playing well together took Lionhearts to 12:4 and EBC were unable to get back into the set. They hit their hosts hard from the opening rally of the second, though. 0:3 and, after a single side-out, 1:10 with skipper Nasir Khan serving and the net dominated by Thomas Jefferson, Ted Turner and Axel Alabi. Lionhearts were able to close slowly to 10:15 but then seemed to sense they had too much to do, some good hitting by Nasir brought set point and, after a single side-out, the set and parity.

Lionhearts were 3:0 ahead in the third but immediately pulled back to 3:2 in the prelude to an excellent, exciting set. With nothing between the teams, they looked inseparable at 19:all but captains seem usually to exude calm and Sebastian was no exception, serving accurately after side-out to claim the set. The tension and excitement continued for most of the fourth set as the score mounted to 12:all. Then Thomas Wolfe and Misha, each of whom had spent the third set on the bench, underlined their value by serving for three winning rallies. The damage had been done and EBC found it impossible to get back onto terms although they managed to close to 20:16 and briefly put a frown on Paolo Montalbano's forehead.

Greenhouse may have lost both matches so far this season, but they have won three sets in those games and, on this performance, will know that no opposition will take them lightly. Lionhearts will be satisfied with a good start and aware that complacency has to be avoided.
