Men's Div. 2 A : Crusaders need set to solve SGSS puzzle

SGSS Southall lost to Flaming Six Crusaders (Men’s D2 A - London Volleyball League) 18:21 12:21 10:21
Smiles at Southall
Well, Rajinder Sangha's quote was actually, "Smiles at Southall as the Crusader march starts." Both teams seemed delighted that the season was under way at last but, from the first whistle they competed seriously.

Southall made an excellent start to the game, immediately going 2:0 and 4:1 ahead. They were eventually overhauled at 9:10 but they continued to compete strongly and were still just a point adrift at 17:18 but Crusaders' experience was just too strong for them.

The visiting side hit a purple patch at 2:5 and raced to 2:14 despite a time-out at 2:9 with excellent serving by new signing T Keane and great work at the net by Federico Andorino, Nacho Gil and Sander Alewijnse. The rest of the set proved to be comparatively even but the damage had been done and Southall confidence reduced.

Afterwards, Crusaders' Mohamad Arasoghli told me that i n terms of the match he thought Southall had definitely improved from last year, as his side struggled in the first set to overcome them. However, once the set was over, they were able to regain their composure and push for the win in the next two sets. He felt it had been a great start to the season, and he hopes it will continue this way.

They then made steady progress through the third set using their experience to read well Southall's moves and, although the home side scored two fewer points than in the previous set they looked rather more settled.

It was smiles again for the teams' photograph at the end of the match.
