Key women's matches fire up the contest (National Volleyball League)
Richmond 2 the team to follow
The fixture lists published for the NVL and volleyball supporters are starting to savour the season to come. What's first on the menu?

Disappointingly, only one of London's national league teams will be playing at home on the first day of the season, Sunday 24th September. Richmond 2 will be involved in a men's third division (south) triangular contest against Surrey and Wiltshire at their Kingston College base, the first match starting at 11.00 a.m. In the women's first division, Malory Eagles have to travel to play Hertfordshire while London Inter will be away to South Hampshire in the women's division 3 (south).

There will be a great choice of matches the following week-end for the capital's volleyball enthusiasts. On Saturday 30th September, Richmond Docklands play IBB Polonia at 17.00 in Kingston in the men's Super8 after Aces have entertained Newcastle Staffs in a mid-day start at Redhill School in the men's first division. Next day, Baks start their new adventure in men's 2 (south) playing against Bristol at their Castle Green venue starting at 14.00 and Dartford play against Oxford Ladies at 12.00 at Dartford Tech in women's 2 (south). London Inter play away again - in Reading and there are two out-of-town triangulars in men's 3 (south): Cheltenham & Gloucester, Richmond 2 and Wiltshire Mavericks in Cheltenham and Dartford, Cardiff and South Hants in Portsmouth.

The following Saturday, 7th October, is the day for the second Super8 men's match when IBB Polonia entertain Malory Eagles at Brentford Fountain LC at 14.30 (since postponed). While they are playing, Orcas will have travelled north for a baptism of fire as they start a new challenge in the women's Super 8 by playing Northumbria, the league winners last season, away. Then, next day, they have to face champions, Durham. What a tough start to the season! We are looking for a couple of surprises. Meanwhile, Polonia Sideout will have a home fixture at St Benedict's in Ealing against newly promoted Oxford Students; first serve 14.45. London Baks have another home fixture and will be challenged by near neighbours, Essex.

Moving on to Saturday, 14th October and we have another top game at Brentford Fountains from 14.30 when IBB Polonia are at home to Sheffield in the men's Super8 while Malory Eagles' men's team plays away: in Northumbria. In the women's Super 8, Orcas play away for the third successive time, visiting Wessex, playing before the men. A London derby next day in women's division 3 (south) when Inter take on Dartford at the Island Sports Trust starting at 11 o'clock and, a little later at 13.30, Essex travel to Ernest Bevin College to face Richmond in women's division 3 (south-east)

Some enthralling contests in prospect. All the teams seek your support.
