London Beach Volleyball
Bello twins are Commonwealth champions
The July sun in the Bahamas is right overhead at 12.50 p.m. and it was at this time today (22nd July) that Richmond's Joaquin and Javier Bello faced Sotiris Siapanis and Constantin Skordis of Cyprus in the final of the boys under 18 Youth Commonwealth Games beach volleyball championships.

What a scorcher on court too! Over 42 minutes the pride of Richmond imposed their superiority to win 21:16 21:14.

In adding his praise to the messages flooding in Volleyball England Honorary President, Richard Callicott said, "Great result for the Bellos and English volleyball " LVA Chairman, Charlie Orton added his congratulations saying simply, "Well done the boys," but also paid tribute to Richard's contribution: "A lot of the credit for volleyball being included in the Commonwealth Games is due to VE Honorary President Richard Callicott. Using his position on the Commonwealth Games committee, he has lobbied for its inclusion for many years. With the main Games going to Australia's Gold Coast in 2018 it was an opportunity to get beach volleyball included which just could not be missed. It was accepted and the Youth Games followed suit."

At their home club in Richmond, its Chairman David Rijvers enthused, “I’m absolutely delighted and so proud for the boys, family and Volleyball England. I’ve been in English volleyball a long time and this is probably one of England’s finest world class junior achievements."
