England Girls finish fifth
It was 9.40 local time this morning (20th July) and English support was split as the third pair of quarter-final matches had Joaquin and Javier Bello on one court with Ellie Austin and Yasmin Kaashoek playing alongside them.

The girls were drawn against Ella Akkerman and Jasmin Pepi-Milton of New Zealand and the West Country pair eventually went down to the Kiwis, undefeated in the preliminary round, after 43 minutes of battling and an excellent second set: 16:21 21:11 11:15. Later in the heat of the day they played off for fifth place against the Bahamas pair of Latavia Braynen and Mechelle Moss whom they had beaten in the preliminary pool and triumphed once again 21:10 21:15.

The boys from Richmond faced a challenge from South Africa's Lukholo Jooste and Aviwe Mumfanya and took a rather shorter time: 39 minutes, to triumph 21:10 21:17 and earn their place in the semi finals. It was Joaquin and Javier's seventeenth birthday. What a present they gave one another!
