Play off tournament (London Volleyball League)
Inter's mighty recovery surprises students
A great day of volleyball at the Copper Box on Saturday (13th May) with a supportive following urging on their favourites to produce their very best.

On parallel courts the runners up of men's and women's division one battled it out to decide who should challenge the sixth place Premier Division side, the two below them having suffered relegation. The women's contest turned out to be surprisingly one sided as Inter cruised through Malory Eagles in straight sets while a rather under-strength ULU men's side confounded the majority of spectators who fancied them to win against Lionhearts Predators but went down fighting after showing much of their renowned ability in taking the third set relatively easily.

At about three o'clock the Premier Division sides took to the arena aware that this event is often their graveyard but on this occasion they were both to triumph. Predators proved no match for Spikers although they played well enough in spells. Truth be told though, if it had not been for some devastating blocking by Dave Gregory their modest total of 35 points in three sets would have been quite a bit smaller. The first two sets of the women's match were equally uneven with ULU rampant but Inter recovered magnificently, took the third set and at 4:11 in the fourth looked like taking things to a fifth. Some great serving by Cristina Ticci then got her side to 10:11 and everyone's afternoon was made for them in an exciting finish after the men's match had ended.
